My own Bedroom Mural Project
by Dana Mooney
February 03, 2020
I recently painted a mural on my own bedroom wall in a very relaxing, calming and elegant west coast inspired style. This mural is one that I love and live with everyday, and I really wanted to pull together the rest of the space to showcase just how fun and beautiful a statement mural can look in your home too. I styled up my room and included some brands that I really believe in. First, Flax Sleep. This luxury french linen bedding company is run by a small team of Vancouver women who donate part of all proceeds and believe in sustainable beautiful products.
Next, CF Interiors (where I sell many of my paintings) has been such a huge supporter of my work and the fact that it’s been a family run business for 40 years makes me even happier to be their featured artist. My upholstered bed and bedside lamps can be purchased through them as well.
Another local company, Homecoming Candles, is a small brand run by Suraiya Nanji, and I just love her unique scents and style. Stay tuned for my own line of custom candles made by Homecoming!
Finally, one of the most exciting new items in my bedroom is my mattress from Polysleep. I partnered with Polysleep on this project, (use code DANAMOONEY at checkout for 20% off) for a few reasons: First, my back was killing me and second, I also actually work from bed quite a bit before hitting the studio! Sleep is so important for artists and everyone’s mental health - and I’m not kidding you mine has improved so so much since changing our mattress. Polysleep is based 100% Canadian, based in Montreal, and all of the products they use to make their mattresses are locally sourced. There are so many more reasons why I love it too. The sides are extra strong so it won’t squish down when you sit on the edge, and it’s totally eco friendly right down to the biodegradable box it comes in. It is made with antimicrobial foam and has liquid repellant cover (hellooo, my puppy Cocanut doesn’t stand a chance on wrecking this thing).
My bedroom is now my favourite place in my home and the mural set the stage. Next up, my living room makeover! Watch out for that in 2020 as I pull it all together for a big reveal. If you want help with your space, I love using my creativity in different ways, don’t hesitate to reach out for some styling tips and art advice anytime 💙. I’m always looking to paint more murals too, don’t hesitate to chat with me about that. Oh and photos as usual by my friend and fab photographer Tracey Ayton.
